AJ Reference 2014

Description

Ok, this is the last reference I'll make of her, I swear. My style just changes too much, ok?

I found out that I couldn't draw cats because I was trying to draw them in my old style instead of my new one. xD

BIO

- Female
- Bisexual
- Single
- 15

AJ is 30% Tiger, 30% Leopard, 30% Falcon, and 10% goes to the artificial coloring. The earrings are not optional, you must draw them, but the purple scarf is optional.

AJ is a generally happy cat/monster, but she can be very moody and have sudden emotional changes. She falls into depression quite often, but her friends usually lift her out of it. She can be very shy and introverted, and even cold and hateful to those she doesn't know. AJ doesn't make friends really easy because of this, and doesn't trust strangers.

Once you get to know AJ, it's a totally different story. She's very loyal as a friend, and likes to give advice and help her friends. You can even just walk up to her and start ranting, and she'll listen to you. She doesn't really talk that much, but when she does it's usually very useful information.

Key things to remember:

- AJ is missing the second and third primary feathers on her left wing.
- AJ has two clip earrings, but just one circle earring.
- AJ's blue markings end at her shoulders, and on the inside of her legs.
- There is a white marking around her dew claw that is not part of the white marking around her paws.

LIKES

- Music (anything that doesn't repeat and has some sort of emotion to it)
- Being alone
- Flying
- Cold weather
- Hugging (but she doesn't tell anybody)

DISLIKES

- Loud/sudden noises
- Crowds
- Warm/humid weather
- Other beings in general

Natural form: AJ is in her natural form right now. She is just her normal self, and isn't experiencing any mood swings.

True form: This form is pretty special. AJ recedes into herself, and let's the ancient spirits take over her body. She gains the markings, and the natural colors of her ancestors. In this form, her claws and fangs grow long and sharp, and her eyes are just two glowing orbs. She grows from 2 feet tall to 3 feet tall (about the size of a Bengal Tiger).

AJ only goes into True form when her life is in danger. She will also go into it if her friends are in danger, or if she is dying

Demon form: In demon form, all of AJ's blue markings turn black, and her blue fur turns a darker shade. Her eyes turn from green to a dark blue, and her wings turn completely black. In this form, AJ gets a more ragged and tuff appearance, making others fear her.

AJ turns into demon form when she is angry, frustrated, annoyed, or scarred.

Spirit form: In Spirit form, AJ loses all of her blue markings, and her wings turn completely green. Her eyes also turn from green to dark blue, and her whole body takes on a lighter shade than before.

AJ turns into spirit form when she is sad, depressed, or even lonely.

*In True Form AJ doesn't wear accessories like her earrings and scarf.*

That's all! If you have any questions or comments, I will gladly answer them. Oh, and please use the black I put for her wings on the reference. It's not a true black, and has a slightly blue tint to it. Have a nice day! Critics and relines please!

A beautiful concept! however, might I suggest toning down the colors a little? I think a minty green on those feathers would go lovely with the blue fur! Or, If you like the bright green of the feathers, maybe put more grey in both of the blue's on the fur?

I love the concept of different kinds of markings on both sides; beautifully done. However, most leopards have more of 'rings' than solid spots.
example: img.burrard-lucas.com/kenya/fu…
I rather like the solid, it helps bring balance to the bold stripes on the other side.

as far as her being based on big cats, I feel anatomy wise, she looks much more like a smaller domestic cat. Leopards, Tigers and falcons all have round pupils, rather than slits, like those of house cats or foxes. Also, making the face longer and making the muzzle less distinct from the brow should help, too. oh, and one more lil thing. Big kitties usually have round ears! leopards, lions, tigers. Big ol round ears, kind of like a bear!
Smaller kitties like bobcats, lynxes, and house cats have pointy ears. maybe this sketch will help some, I'm no good at explaining things. fc09.deviantart.net/fs71/f/201…

as far as the wings are, you're definitely moving in the right direction. However, there are a few things that could be touched up on, with just a little bit of anatomy know-how! Here is a fantastic tutorial by <img class="avatar" src="a.deviantart.net/avatars/t/h/t…" alt=":icontheantimonyelement:" title="TheAntimonyElement" />

Remember to look up references; google is your best friend! also, there are tons of very useful stock images right here on deviantart, and I'm sure the artists would be thrilled to see someone using them! Or, if you've got free time, see if there are any zoos or animal rehabilitation centers nearby you could visit or volunteer at. Pictures are very helpful, but sometimes you've just got to go out and see the real thing. (and who doesn't like going to the zoo?)
change those little things and you're gonna have one super rad oc, my friend. <3 Hope this was helpful, and I hope I didn't sound too mean or anything. I'm only here to help! and, if you have any questions, please send me a note, I'll be more than happy to chat and help out.
